Welcome to the HHS!
We are dedicated to the awareness, education and preservation of Helmetta history for the past, present and future.

We are located on the 2nd floor of Boro Hall

We wrapped up our 11th year and it proved to be our year for activities! Stay tuned for an update on our annual meeting and the year in review.

The appeal of small town Helmetta ranked the Boro as one of the top 100 towns to live in, in the state of NJ!
(NJ Monthly Magazine)

The George W. Helme Snuff Mill District was a fine example of a late 1800's mill town. The district comprises the George W. Helme snuff mill (which ceased manufacturing in 1993); housing for workers, middle-level managers, and the owners, accessory buildings such as the company store, St. George Episcopal Church, and Holy Trinity R.C. Church; and Helmetta Pond, once a source of power for the mill. About 115 buildings were originally in the district, which was named to the state Register of Historic Places on February 1, 1980, and to the National Register of Historic Places on August 15, 1980.
